2006 Chamber Committee Goals
Theme: Re-Discover
Liberal.
1. Legislative Affairs
A. Sponsor governmental affairs coffees and
informational meetings with elected officials.
B. Based on research and members interest,
report to the board on local and regional
legislative issues.
2. Membership Affairs:
A. Call on each non-renewal with an "exit"
interview to try to determine the underling
cause of non-renewals.
1. Determine if the Liberal Chamber of Commerce
is meeting the needs of the non-renewals and if
there are other factors beyond our control, ie:
economic, etc.
B. Explore the Hispanic community businesses to
determine opportunities for the Chamber to
serve.
1. The cultural differences are more significant
than most of us realize.
2. Determine from the Board if this is an area
they want this committee to pursue.
C. Make a personal visit or phone call to each
and every member during this year and discuss
their business and needs.
3. Education
A. Plan and coordinate:
1. Career Day in the fall sponsored by the
Liberal Chamber of Commerce, Southwest Kansas
Technical School and Seward County Community
College
2. Academic Awards Banquet in the spring and
select 2 candidates as recipients each of a $250
Chamber scholarship, one for
SCCC and one for SWKTS.The committee chairperson
will attend the awards banquet to recognize the
top 15% of the graduating class with
certificates
from the Chamber and present the two
scholarships.
3. Organize the New Educators Breakfast in
August for USD 480, Private Schools, Seward
County Community College and Southwest Kansas
Technical School .
B. Host four educational seminars for Chamber
members. One of the seminars will be geared
toward the Hispanic owned businesses.
4. Agriculture
A. Host a luncheon for area Farmers and Ranchers
recognizing Ag Appreciation and increase
attendance from 60 to over 70
B. Sponsor Farmers Market from late June to
September
C. Sponsor or assist with another Agricultural
Event in the community. Offer to assist with
FACTS Conference scheduled each January at the
Activity Center.
5. Special Events
A. The Special Events Committee will plan all
aspects of the Annual Chamber Banquet including
program, facility, master of ceremonies,
invocation, dinner,
sponsorships, ticket and table sales and other
items as needed.
B. The Special Events Committee will assist with
the annual Duck Race during September.
C. The Special Events Committee will explore
options for additional projects.
6. Ambassadors
Purpose:
The Liberal Ambassadors organization
represents the Chamber of Commerce at public
functions and Chamber sponsored activities. The
Ambassadors
shall solicit individual and business
memberships from the business community at
large.
Goals:
A. Promote the City of Liberal to local
businesses, area businesses, and the public.
B. Represent and promote the City of Liberal at
area public functions such as parades, chamber
banquets, and special events.
C. Promote a positive working environment
between the business community and citizens of
Liberal and the surrounding area.
D. Help with local events such as ribbon
cuttings, ground breakings, chamber breakfasts,
chamber fundraisers, etc.
E. Make annual membership visitations with
Chamber Board Members. Questions and information
obtained by Ambassadors will be referred to and
followed up
on by Chamber Board members.
F. Recruit more Ambassadors.
7. Communications
A. Solicit inserts for the Chamber Newsletter
B. Highlight a chamber business member every
month
C. Establish a task force to review and update
Chamber policies and procedures
D. Provide quality information to our members
and the community
E. Review the content, frequency and recipients
of the Newsletter.
